Business goals & metrics

Learning goal

Tie a learning project to a number the business already tracks.

Estimated time

25 minutes · self-paced

Warm-up

Which sounds stronger: 'improve awareness' or 'reduce rework by 15%'?

Main lesson

Find the existing metric

Never invent a metric. Find the dashboard the business already watches: error rate, cycle time, NPS, safety incidents, attrition, conversion.

  • Name the metric
  • Name the current baseline
  • Name the target and timeframe
  • Name the owner

Leading vs lagging

timeline

Behaviour indicators move first; business results follow. Track both so you can show progress early.

Say no with numbers

example

Examples from practice

  • Linking a support training to first-contact-resolution rate.
